FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – underlying factor causing the heart attacks is NOT the hour lost vs. hour gained, but rather the stress and strain put on individuals as they have to change all of their clocks and electronic gadgets

Most people know that Daylight Savings Time (DST) was first introduced in the USA in 1918 as one means of conserving energy in World War I.  Separate from all the tinkering and state-by-state carve-outs, it has been documented by numerous studies with increasing confidence that when clocks are moved ahead an hour, as will happen tonight (Fall back an hour, Spring forward an hour), the rate of heart attacks increases in the Spring, when people in most of the Country lose an hour of sleep, and the rate of heart attacks in the Fall, when people get an hour extra in their day (and presumably more sleep and less stress).

The above has been well-documented in many medical journals.  We have been working with hospitals, and even though nothing has been published as of yet, it is nonetheless clear that the underlying factor causing the heart attacks is NOT the hour lost vs. hour gained, but rather the stress and strain put on individuals as they have to change all of the clocks and electronic gadgets — digital wristwatches, microwave ovens, mechanical clocks in their homes, quartz driven clocks, and even of course, grandfather clocks and grandmother clocks.

We were brought in as clock experts and to assist in the control group vs. the test group.  The results have been by any measure, based on our medical experience and obvious expertise, undoubtedly showing the benefit of awareness, education, and intervention programs so as to not add this extra pressure that is literally killing thousands of people annually.  In fact, we encouraged the medical school conducting the study to terminate it and report on its results IMMEDIATELY so as to save lives tonight and this weekend.  They have refused, so we are going rogue and breaking this life-saving story in the most relevant way we know how, on the world-famous Clocks Blog.

JAMA and Lancet are believed close to being priming articles for final publication.  But NOT with enough time to save lives this weekend.  The only other Medical Journal that even considered highlighting this GROUNDBREAKING STORY was the newly endowed Medical Journal of the On. ION Johns Hopkins Medical School, but a last minute kerfuffle apparently deep-sixed its publication in time.  The University of Pennsylvania and Yale Medical School’s journals were considering publishing this story which could save the lives of so many, but we are told the standard resident Pharma veto, present at all certified medical journals, was exercised in each case, delaying publication by at least a Quarter.

Because of the life-saving importance of this groundbreaking story, we are allowing anyone anywhere to reprint this story in whole or part — with attribution and a link to us — without seeking any prior approval.

Undoubtedly this study will go down in medical history as one where lives could have been saved if only administrative hurdles could have been more easily overcome.
