I recently bought a home and have been slowly trying to put my stamp of personality on each of the rooms; not an easy feat when you’re light in the wallet after all the expenses of a purchase and move. And I’m not long on time either considering my work schedule. But I’ve done what I can to transform the rooms in my home into something that truly say something about who I am as a person – and as a homeowner.
Let me say that the rooms are wonderful to begin with; it’s an older home so each room is filled with nooks and crannies that are truly something special. But with the paint, accessories, furniture, and artwork that I’ve been adding, the rooms have been ramped up to unique and, in some cases, spectacular.
One of the things that I’m doing to make sure that each of the rooms in my home is truly something special is placing a very special piece in each space. In the kitchen, I placed some antique kitchen tools on a shelf that I found in an antique store; in the living room I put a mantel clock above the fireplace – a clock that I found through a great website – and that looks almost exactly like the clock that used to be in my grandparents’ home in the country. It makes me feel closer to them and it’s a special piece that really transforms the room from “nice” to special.
In fact, there are a great many clocks on the website that I found; clocks that will be perfect in a variety of rooms in my new home. I’m considering a wall clock for my family room and perhaps even a grandmother clock for the library I’m putting together in the front of the house.
I’ve found that with a little bit of imagination and, of course, some hard work, a home can be transformed one room at a time.
