The Retro-Futuristic Aviator
It’s practically a rite of passage for eyewear designers to knock off the aviator. But these riffs, from the New York-based line Grey Ant, take the classic to new heights. “Everyone else was making this thin, minimalist ’70s style,” says Grant Krajecki, Grey Ant’s co-founder and designer. “I wanted to give mine a futuristic ’80s feel.” He accomplished this by shifting and exaggerating the geometry, putting acetate “eyebrows” on the lenses and pushing the color palette beyond the traditional green and gold.
