Anyone who got up early to watch Prince William marry Kate Middleton will already know Admiralty Arch, the stone edifice that spans the street on the way in and out of Buckingham Palace.
The arch, completed in 1912 in memory of Queen Victoria and one of London’s iconic monuments, is some half-mile from the palace gates. For almost 100 years it was the base for the First Sea Lord, leader of the Royal Navy, and as offices for the Admiralty, the navy’s top brass.
