The good news for Roger Federer at the U.S. Open: He has survived. The possibly bad news: It has taken Federer 10 sets—the most possible—to reach the third round.
Federer struggled again on Thursday but prevailed, 6-1, 6-7(3), 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 against Mikhail Youzhny. The match took three hours and eight minutes and ended when Youzhny mishit a ball that landed short and bounced high. Federer smashed it down the sideline.
