HOUSTON—Yuli Gurriel will face discipline for his actions Friday night—but not in the World Series.

Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred suspended Gurriel, the Houston Astros’ first baseman, for five games as punishment for his offensive gesture and language directed toward Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Yu Darvish. But the penalty won’t go into effect until the start of the 2018 regular season, allowing Gurriel to stay on the field as the Astros pursue their first championship in franchise history.
