There is one pitcher leading baseball’s seemingly endless quest to shorten the length of games: Houston Astros reliever Chris Devenski.

Last year, Devenski appeared in 43 games, pitched 83.2 innings and tied for the major-league lead with 20 relief appearances of at least two innings. He finished with a 1.61 ERA in relief. Only three relievers since 1995, with at least 80 innings, averaged longer outings than Devenski, and none had an ERA as low.
